Morzine
Nestled within the valleys of the Porte du Soleil area in the Northern French Alps, Morzine is a picturesque and traditional ski resort, sporting panoramic views of the infamous Mont Blanc Massif and the Dents Blanc.
This all year round resort has a traditional savoyarde feel and is a resort of contrasts; in summer the atmosphere is laid back with excellent mountain biking trails and in the winter is bustling with skiers and boarders.
Morzine provides a good base to ski the 650 km of linked area of the Portes du Soleil and Morzine-les Gets itself has the most extensive local pistes of the resorts in the area with relatively few queues.
The resort is located at the northern most end of the French Alps, immediately between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc and these factors create a microclimate of weather fronts bringing precipitation to the area. Also the Morzine-Les Gets side is predominately pastureland so only 20cm snow is needed for good skiing conditions. Purpose built Avoriaz which links to the rest of the Portes du Soleil and the Swiss resorts of Champery and Morgins is easily accessed by gondola from Morzine centre.
The resort is well served by an array of local shopping, bars and restaurants with menus to suit every taste and budget from local Savoyarde menus to gastronomic delights.
Go down the rue du bourg in the old town towards the church and you will find the wine bar, bar Robinson, the Dixie which shows large screen sports and finish up at the Rhodos with its wifi access and famous Burgers.
